2016 AMEA SOUTH CENTRAL REGION MUSIC FESTIVAL OF PERFORMANCE

FEBRUARY 19-20

Sahuaro High School, 545 N Camino Seco, Tucson, AZ 85710

January 23, 2016

Dear All-Regional Musician:

Congratulations on being selected to be a part of the 2016 AMEA South Central All-Regional Festival of Performance. You have achieved an outstanding honor.

You and a parent or guardian must read and sign the All-Region Participation Contract that your director will print out from www.azmea.org or from an email previously sent to them. Give this contract to your director; directors will bring them to the festival. If you are unable to participate in the festival, you must let your director know right away so that an alternate can be notified. As a selected member of the all-regional honor festival, you are expected to be at every minute of every rehearsal and participate in the final festival concert. If you are tardy to or absent from any rehearsal or the concert, you will lose your All-State Eligibility on the first offense as described in the ARAS handbook 7-1.3.13.

Please find enclosed in this packet the music you will be rehearsing and performing. You are expected to practice this music and have it fully prepared before the first rehearsal. Vocalists should have their music memorized. There will be a music check for all musicians. Seating for band and orchestra will be based on the music checks at the festival site.  Anyone who is not prepared risks losing their participation in the festival. Instrumentalists may need to tape each piece of their music together so as to avoid bad page turns. You are required to number your measures.

In an effort to make the festival experience enjoyable to all, each student participating is expected to be attentive, courteous and cooperative with everyone including performers, clinicians and teachers. Appropriate discipline will be given to any student who is behaving inappropriately at any time during the festival.

Each student must come with all their music, a pencil, and properly operating musical equipment. The wearing of hats and the consumption of gum and candy will not be permitted at any time during the rehearsals or performance. There will be music preparation rehearsals for choir and orchestra only (not band). All members are strongly encouraged to attend.

COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS: Each student will receive two complimentary tickets at the end of Friday’s rehearsal. Additional tickets may be purchased at the door for $5.00 each 30 minutes prior to the concert.

CONCERT ATTIRE: Ladies:  A nice dress or dress pantsuit is appropriate professional concert-wear.  If wearing a skirt, please make sure the length falls below the knee when seated.  Wear appropriate dress shoes—no flip flops. Gentlemen: Please wear a suit or sports coat, long tie, dress slacks and dress shoes. Everyone: No cologne, perfume or overly fragrant hairspray.

LOCATION:     Sahuaro High School Auditorium is located at 545 N Camino Seco, Tucson, AZ 85710.  Classes will be in session on Friday so it is imperative that you adhere to all campus policies and procedures.  Arrive 15 minutes early to find the appropriate check-in and rehearsal site.  Remember that you must attend every minute of every rehearsal. Illness is not an excused absence.

  • Don’t forget the All-Region Participation Contract and registration is due by February 12th. Your director will register you on-line by the deadline.
